Firstly, check if POP3 is activated from your Gmail account. To do this, login to your gmail and go to “Settings” then “Forwarding and POP/IMAP”.
Now enable your POP3 by selecting one of these options: “Enable POP for all mail“, or “Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on“.
Setting Windows Mail side:
Open up Windows Mail. Then Go to “Tools” menu and click on the “Accounts” tab.
Now, select the Add button.
Then choose the “E-mail Account” option then hit the “Next” button.
Now you can select the display name that will be displayed on every outgoing e-mail you send. Fill that in then and go to the next.
You will now be asked to type in your e-mail address. Do that then click Next.
You now have to setup the e-mail servers. In the Incoming e-mail server list, choose POP3. Enter the Incoming & Outgoing server names then check the Outgoing server requires authentication field. Click on the Next button.
You should now be in the Internet Mail Logon window, here you should enter your e-mail address and password. You also have the option of checking the Remember password option. Click Next.
Nearly There! Select the Do not download my e-mail at this time option becaue you will have to make some other adjustments before letting that happen. Now click the Finish button.
The Internet Accounts window should now be open. Choose your Gmail account then click Properties.

Now go to the Advanced tab and type 465 for the SMTP server and 995 for the POP3 server. Now check the option “This server requires a secure connection (SSL)” for POP3 and SMTP.
If you want to leave backup messages on Gmail servers then check the Leave a copy of messages on server option. Click OK.
Windows Mail should now be configured to access your Gmail account and download your email. If you press the Send/Receive button this will activate the downloading.
