AutoPlay will let you choose which programs you want to use for different types of digital media, for example audio CDs, movie DVDs or images from a digital camera.Finding AutoPlay settings

Go to the Start Menu and type in “autoplay” in the search box.

Click the “AutoPlay” result, this will then open a new window.

Here, you can customize AutoPlay settings according to your personal preferences.
Turning AutoPlay On and Off

When AutoPlay is enabled but you want to disable it, simply uncheck the little box next to “Use AutoPlay for all media and devices“.

Click on the Save button located at the bottom of the window.

If it is disabled and you now want to enable it, just check the option and click Save.

If you want an audio CD to be played automatically once you insert it, choose the first option on the list. If you are unsure what to choose, just select “Ask me every time” and you will be able to choose any of the options when an audio CD is inserted.
When you inserting a DVD or CD that contains image, you can just choose to “Import the pictures using Windows” or “View pictures using Windows.”

In “Software and games category”, you got the option to “Install or run program” this is useful if you have many CDs or DVDs with and programs you want to use.

Probably the most useful feature in AutoPlay is the ability to choose what player will open movies stored on DVD or CD.

If you are not happy with your configuration of AutoPlay, you can just click on the “Reset all defaults” button, then click Save.

Connect Gmail to Windows Mail

Firstly, check if POP3 is activated from your Gmail account. To do this, login to your gmail and go to “Settings” then “Forwarding and POP/IMAP”.

Now enable your POP3 by selecting one of these options: “Enable POP for all mail“, or “Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on“.

Setting Windows Mail side:

Open up Windows Mail. Then Go to “Tools” menu and click on the “Accounts” tab.

Now, select the Add button.

Then choose the “E-mail Account” option then hit the “Next” button.

Now you can select the display name that will be displayed on every outgoing e-mail you send. Fill that in then and go to the next.

You will now be asked to type in your e-mail address. Do that then click Next.

You now have to setup the e-mail servers. In the Incoming e-mail server list, choose POP3. Enter the Incoming & Outgoing server names then check the Outgoing server requires authentication field. Click on the Next button.

You should now be in the Internet Mail Logon window, here you should enter your e-mail address and password. You also have the option of checking the Remember password option. Click Next.

Nearly There! Select the Do not download my e-mail at this time option becaue you will have to make some other adjustments before letting that happen. Now click the Finish button.

The Internet Accounts window should now be open. Choose your Gmail account then click Properties.

Now go to the Advanced tab and type 465 for the SMTP server and 995 for the POP3 server. Now check the option “This server requires a secure connection (SSL)” for POP3 and SMTP.

If you want to leave backup messages on Gmail servers then check the Leave a copy of messages on server option. Click OK.

Windows Mail should now be configured to access your Gmail account and download your email. If you press the Send/Receive button this will activate the downloading.

Disk Cleanup an application that has not change much at all in Windows Vista. It’s functionality is still the same and the interface was only changed slighty. There we no additional function were added. Disk Cleanup let you scan your disks, to find unnecessary files and also helps you remove them to get rid of that excess trash and make your computer run faster. From this article we will show you how to us it and how to save that valuable space from your hard drive.

 

  • Go to Accessories -> System Tools. Or type in the search box and the word “Cleanup”. Now open “Disk Cleanup”.

When the application starts, select which partition you want to scan and clean. Now click “OK“.

Disk Cleanup will now scan the partition you selected and tell you how much space you can make available .

Wait a while to the results are visible. You can now see the total amount of the space you can make available, which is then detailed by the name and types of files that could be deleted. Select the categories you wish to erase. Now click OK.

Disk Cleanup will then ask for a confirmation. Click Delete files and Disk Cleanup will start getting to work.

Wait until the loading bar fills up and the Disk Cleanup window disappears.

In case you are not happy with the amount of space that was made available, go to More Options button in the Disk Cleanup window. Here you will be able remove all but the most recent of System Restore points or you could uninstall some of the programs you have located on your computer.

Vista will let you automate some of its maintenance jobs like defragmenting your hard drive and backing up your system documents and files.

To defrag your files regularly select the Start menu to click on Computer, then right-click on your hard drive . Select its Properties menu, then under the Tools tab click “Defragment Now”. Select the “Run on a schedule” option. Now click the Modify Schedule button and drop-down options to set a schedule.

Vista has a new function that allows users to tag multiple files from a directory so that you can call the same action to all of them.

  • Go to a Windows Explorer window and hit the ALT key, this will bring up the classic File menu.
  • Then in the Tools menu, select Folder Options. From the View tab, tick the box “Use check boxes to select items” click the Apply to Folder button to apply these setting to all your Explorer folders.
  • Now when you hover over a file, you can select it and others to copy, delete, or move as a group.
